Keepsakes filled with coffee

Every student wants to be invited to something, and SE students received a very special invitation on Friday, Nov. 29. Students always get somewhat excited when something free is involved. I know I do.

Southeastern students had the opportunity to have free coffee with President Larry Minks at the SE Bookstore, where students had a chance to meet the president and voice their concerns.

The meeting with Minks was casual and laid back. It also allowed students to converse with other students and leaders of our campus.

Minks and SGA President Matt Heggy showed up to the bookstore wearing the same attire. It was humorous to see two presidents wearing the same clothing. I’m pretty sure it was unplanned because of the reactions on their faces when they saw each other.

Students learned there are plans for the fountain in front of the Morrison Building. The plans are part of the Southeastern beautification project. Minks showed students the renovation plans for the fountain and other areas of Southeastern’s campus.
The plan for the fountain is to remodel and update the plumbing.
I am pleased to see there is something being done to make the campus come together. A working fountain is just what the campus needs. But it will take a lot of dedication from the students, staff and faculty to make this dream come true.

Students also had the chance to talk to other students about issues that they might be concerned with.

For most of the students, the free cup of coffee was just the ticket. Free stuff is a great for students, especially because we know that our tuition dollars are at work in providing social engagements.

Most students also received a free mug that had the Southeastern logo and the statement, “I had coffee with the president.” The mug is an excellent keepsake to show off to your friends and family.

Sarah is so happy to have coffee with the president mugs that she decided to take a picture with two mugs. Which this makes it a two mugs up.

Homecoming 2010: Homecoming court

After the parade had finished, students had the option to join the alumni for the pre-game fun.

Then it was time to know who would be this year’s king and queen. Last year’s Homecoming king and queen came to pass on their crowns.

Homecoming queen of 2010 is Phylicia Vandawalker, an SE senior and the head cheerleader.

The Homecoming king of 2010 is Ryan McMillan, also an SE senior and a member of the Baptist Collegiate Ministries.

The Homecoming parade has took over downtown

Homecoming day started with the Homecoming parade. This year’s theme for Homecoming was “Get a Clue.” It was easy for student organizations to come up with ideas to go with the theme.

This year’s float contest was hard to beat. There were some outstanding floats this year.

The one float that stole the judges heart was the Mario Kart theme. It was also my favorite. This float was a three piece masterpiece, made up of a castle, the go karts and the gaming system. It was also so detailed that the bananas had faces on them.

The masterminds behind this product were the members of Simga Simga Simga and Lambda Chi Alpha. The members of these groups walked proudly beside their creation.

Homecoming Bonfire 2010

To start a good ol bonfire, you need someone that has permission and a lot of fire starter. This person is very special because we would not have the Southeastern annual bonfire. To make this possible with out our every own Southeastern police officer.

The fire is always fun to watch. I guess it is the shapes that the fire makes while being fed oxygen from the air. This year's bonfire was record setting. It was said to be one of the hottest bonfires that Southeastern community have ever seen.

The fire was so hot people who were setting on the first five rows of the amphitheater had to move because the temperature was over 200 degrees. It got so hot on stage that the sound crew had to move the equipment back from the fire so it would not melt.

Beside the hottest of the fire, there was entertainment for the students. The entertainment was brave to preform next to the fire.

Students also cheered for the BIG MAN ON CAMPUS. Ronnie Willrich was the winner of the competition. He raised over 6 hundred dollars.

Taylor Painter came in close behind Willrich. He accepted the 2nd place title.

Although the bonfire was a hot one, it was a good way to kick start the Homecoming weekend.

Southeastern Chorale Imitating the Legends

The Southeastern Chorale held an event called "Legends." The event was a silent auction and a dessert auction. All of the money raised went towards the Chorale.

Silent auction items where anything from glassware to trips on sandy beaches. They had over 40 contributors that donated items for the auction.

Members of the Chorale helped set up the tables for the event. Most of the work was done by Sodexo.

Hunter Sitz plays a song on the piano called the "Lullaby." Members of the Southeastern Chorale sang classic songs while their guest ate their meal.

Everybody in the Chorale was dressed in formal attire.

Parents, Family and Friends day

Parents, family, and friends day was this past Saturday on the Southeastern campus. This event was fill full of things to do. There was arts and crafts like make-a-street sign, make-a-dry erase board, splatter paint a freebie and get a tattoo.

These arts and crafts took a lot of passion and time to make. There was printing, pressing, air brushing, peeling and sticking involved.

Roxane Hensley was one of the student that made everything that Parents day had to offer. That sign is prefect to hang over a dorm room door. If you have one of those signs.

There is a little more to Parents, Family and Friends day, they also had entertainment that was really good.

The Chorvettes started of the entertainment with a medley of songs from the Broadway musical called "In the Heights." In the Chorvettes performance was a mixture of life lessons and what young adults are dealing with.

The Sparks Dance Team embraces the parents with some modern Hip-hop dance moves. They do the music the best.

The Sparks are fun to watch and they have so much energy that they transform it into their dances moves.

NOTE: We have some very talented students on our Southeastern campus. If they stay up with it. I could see them go far in their career.

After the dance teams the Southeastern cheer gave us a little pep in our step to get us pumped for the football game that was held later on in that day. The SE Cheer did a quick dance to keep their audience on there toes for their half time show at the game.

Parents day also had a dinner in the cafeteria which was free for anyone that was at the parents day event.

The last source of entertainment before the football game was the band practicing in from of the Morrison building.

All the elements of the band work hard to keep SE students pump up for the game. This group of musicians have the heart and soul of Southeastern. What I mean is they are the true heartbeat.

That concludes Parents, Family and Friends Day 2010.
